En ting jeg aldrig forstået i Danmark er, hvordan det kan kaldes at “et brød hæver”, men det man bruger, for at brødet skal hæve er “gær”. I Sverige “jäser” et brød, og man bruger “jäst”, for at få det at ske. Er det ikke smart? Det samme ord i forskellige form! Meget nemmere at huske, da man lærer sig sproget.
At hæve = Att jäsa
Gær = Jäst

6. april 2014 at 6:05In this case, I prefer the Danish word because of it's describes the result of the process and not of the leavening agent. It makes it more widely applicable, as for example sourdoughs which contain yeast(s), but also contain a complex mixture of other microbes.
This coming from a microbiologist that learned Swedish first, only to forgot most of it when learning Danish 🙂
